In this advertisement for “euphoria”, a new fragrance for women from Calvin Klein they used both direct and indirect messages. Featured in this ad is a girl wearing the euphoria perfume in two different poses. The stereotypical direct message from this ad is that if you buy and wear the euphoria perfume you will be be pretty and look just like this model. They are basically saying “If you want to look like her, wear this perfume”, which is what most ads do because they want you to buy their product. The indirect message in this ad is the actually meaning of euphoria. Eu.pho.ri.a: noun a state of intense happiness and self-confidence. This means that this ad is telling you that not only will you look pretty if you wear this perfume but also you will be happy and more confident.

Why M&M's are Better than Starburst!?!

M&M’s are the best candy in the world because they make you happy, are made with real chocolate and are not sticky!
Many candies are very sticky which make children fussy and parents upset. Do you really want a fussy child?Of course not! Since M&M’s are not sticky, this is one reason why you should choose M&M’s over any other candy as they do not melt in your hand, but melt in your mouth as chocolate’s temperature is below the average human’s temperature.
Another reason why M&M’s are the best candy in the world is because chocolate is scientifically proven to improve your mood. Many scientists have studied the effect that chocolate has on your mood. Chocolate has a chemical in it, called endorphins. Endorphins is a happy neurotransmitter which makes your brain relaxed and happier. (To read more visit: http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/bb/neuro/neuro04/web1/kcoveleskie.html). So the myths are true, chocolate does make you happy, which is another reason why you should buy some M&M's!
M&M’s are also healthier than Starburst and most other candies. First of all they are made out of real chocolate! Secondly they have 43 less calories than Starbursts do and 8.25 grams less sugar than Starburst. Thirdly, they have zero trans fat.
Some fans of Starbursts would say that Starbursts are better than M&M’s because they are cheaper and they have more flavors than M&M’s. While Starbursts are cheaper, that is only because they use less expensive ingredients than M&M’s do. Starbursts do have more flavors than M&M’s, but they are boring and all taste the same! Who even likes the orange or lemon flavored Starbursts? Nobody does, everybody prefers the strawberry flavored Starbursts and that is only ONE flavor! M&M’s have many different flavors that people love like peanut butter, pretzel, peanut, milk chocolate, crisped rice, dark chocolate and almond because they are interesting and not the same.
Overall M&M’s are definitely better than Starbursts as they aren't sticky, make you happy and are made with real chocolate. Friday, 13 December 2013
60 Second Persuasion Speech
It’s that time of the year again when Christmas stockings are hung and Christmas carols are sung. So why does it not feel like Christmas? Why aren't our Christmas stockings hung and why are we not singing Christmas songs? This is because our Christmas break has been moved to the 20th of December, which is only five days before Christmas! This is not right. Our Christmas breaks should start a week earlier as we will have more time to celebrate and prepare for Christmas! After all I don't feel the Christmas spirit until I am on break. I am sure it is the same for you. Also during the Christmas break we normally get a lot of homework and projects which we always have to rush and do a day or two before we go back to school since we are away or celebrating Christmas the other days. If Christmas break started a week earlier we would have more time to do our homework and not have to do it during the Christmas season which would lead to more family time and therefore more Christmas time. I understand that we need more days of school but we all deserve a break! The five school days that we would lose by starting Christmas break one week earlier, could be made up by coming back to school one week earlier in the fall. That is why our Christmas break should start a week earlier. Thank you.

Save the Zebra!
This is a commercial for WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) to help raise awareness about animal cruelty worldwide. This commercial is to remind people of all ages about animal cruelty and that you should lend a hand to help wildlife as this is the right thing to do. This is a very clever idea for an ad as people will remember it since it stands out and because it makes sense. In this advertisement they used many persuasion techniques such logos, ethos and pathos. You can tell they used logos because at first this looks like a normal zebra but when you start to use your sense of reason you can tell that it is actually a hand with a zebra painted on it as if you are lending a hand to a zebra. You can also tell that they used ethos since this ad makes you think if lending a hand to the WWF is the right thing to do. Furthermore they used pathos as this commercial makes you feel concerned about the animals and their well being. Most importantly it makes you feel hopeful for the future of the zebra as the hand seems to be pointing in the right direction with a “thumbs up” and a smile on its face.
