This is a commercial for WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) to help raise awareness about animal cruelty worldwide. This commercial is to remind people of all ages about animal cruelty and that you should lend a hand to help wildlife as this is the right thing to do. This is a very clever idea for an ad as people will remember it since it stands out and because it makes sense. In this advertisement they used many persuasion techniques such logos, ethos and pathos. You can tell they used logos because at first this looks like a normal zebra but when you start to use your sense of reason you can tell that it is actually a hand with a zebra painted on it as if you are lending a hand to a zebra. You can also tell that they used ethos since this ad makes you think if lending a hand to the WWF is the right thing to do. Furthermore they used pathos as this commercial makes you feel concerned about the animals and their well being. Most importantly it makes you feel hopeful for the future of the zebra as the hand seems to be pointing in the right direction with a “thumbs up” and a smile on its face.
Juliette,
ReplyDeleteI agree. This is a very well planned advertisement and the strongest technique I think they used was logos because they made you think that you are the only one who can save them by using the hand to symbolize yourself and the zebra this being an act of logos. Although a picture can speak for a million words and this ad is very successful, it is not sure on how we should help these animals. It could be to stop deforestation because it is killing the animals for lack of food or shelter, it could be an anti-animal cruelty campaign or another type of problem. I think they could have added a small smart caption or even a word for it to improve and make it clearer. An example could be ‘violence is unacceptable for humans but also creatures’ or ‘deforestation damages more than the air we breathe’. On the whole I thought that the idea was very creative and that it is a very important cause to promote to people of all ages because we become what our friends and family are and believe. Causes like this should be announced more because people know about it but don’t care and if they do care they don’t act. ‘Why don’t they act if they know the dangers?’ you may ask. The answer is simply because they either don’t know what to do, they don’t think they’ll make a difference or the advertisers haven’t done a good enough job convincing.
I agree with you julliete because it does look like the hand is reaching out to other people to lend a hand. At first when I saw the advert it really looked like a real zebra but when I saw it again i could see it was a hand. You did a good job explaining the persuasive techniques.
